BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Charles E Mills Secondary School (CEMSS) honoured four individuals at its Sports Day last Friday (Feb.27) for their contribution to the school’s annual athletics competition.

Glen ‘Barba’ Mills was awarded for his passionate and longstanding service as commentator on the school’s annual Sports Day.

The school also awarded Mervin ‘Barnett’ Mathew for his long-serving voluntary contribution on its annual Sports Day, and Akeem Mathew accepted the award on his father’s behalf.

Also awarded was Austin Warner of the St. Kitts Boy Brigade for his dedicated service as a drum corps commander for the school annual Sports Day parade, while James ‘Bunny’ Pemberton was awarded for his longstanding service as a starter for the races.

SKNVibes spoke to Pemberton at the meet and he indicated that he has 40 years experience as a starter, having done it since at the age of 15.

Pemberton indicated that his debut as a starter came when a sports day failed to commence because the designated starter never showed and he willingly stepped in as a 15-year-old.

He also indicated that he had served the school as a track and field coach for the TDC Inter-School Championship as well as a starter for that event and other track and field meets in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Pemberton is also the longest service starter in the Federation.
