Red House retain title at Washie Athletics Meet

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RED HOUSE of the Washington Archibald High School were once again crowned champions of the school’s Sports Day after a dominant performance at the Silver Jubilee Stadium on Sunday (Mar. 1).

Athletes of the former inter-school champions came out in their numbers and wowed the audience on hand, especially in the sprint events.

The first excellent performance of the day came in the Under-14 Boys 200m when Royden Petes totally dominated the race after making up for his stagger in the first 50 metres and separating himself from the rest of the competitors to breast the tape unchallenged.

He later returned to repeat the feet in the 100 metres.

In the Under-16 Boys category a sprint battle ensued among Craig Connor of Red House, Israel Liburd of Orange and Jevon Brooks of Green.

Connor drew first blood in the 200 metres in a come-from-behind victory after Brookes first got out of the blocks. Brookes however bounced back in the 400 metres as his good start this time was good enough to starve off any challenge from Liburd and Connor.

In the 100 metres Connor however had the last laugh.

Another exciting battle had developed between Kishonna Brookes of Blue House and Hannah Mills of Red House in the Under-20 Girls category. Mills, who recovered from a slow start, won the 200 metres in record time of 24:56. She then managed to edge Brookes in the 100metres in one of the closest races of the day to set a new record at 12:48.

Also impressing on the day was Namibia Clavier who won all the sprint events in the Under-16 Girls category as well as Hassani Rouse who captured the 200 and 100 metres in the Under-20 Boys category, setting a new record of 11.34 in the latter.

The athletes of Red House successfully defended their title and ended the Sports Day in celebratory mood.

The day produced no fewer than 10 records as the school gears up for the TDC Inter-School Championships in two weeks time.
