BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TWO months have passed since those who participated and won prizes at Sugar Mas 43, the Federation’s largest annual celebration, have not received their prize money. However, Carnival Chairman Sylvester Anthony has promised that payment would be made shortly.

In an interview with this publication, Carnival Chairman Sylvester Anthony however declared that an announcement would be made shortly regarding a ceremony in which the prize winners would be paid.

“It is only the first week of March, there will be a prize-giving and the announcement will be made very shortly.”

Anthony reminded that it was only under his leadership that participants of Sugar Mas were paid in January.

He was then asked if the Elections played a part in the delaying of the prize giving ceremony.

“There cannot be prize-giving unless there is money. I am telling you now, preparations are well on their way and the date will be announced shortly.”

In a press conference held last week, former Minister with responsibility for Carnival Hon. Marcella reminded that the Carnival participants are yet to receive their payments.

“We also expect the Carnival participants to be paid. To date they have not been paid.”
