Interact club is a service club for youth ages 12 to 18 and is part of Rotary International, the world’s first service club organization. Rotary clubs sponsor the Interact clubs, by providing financial assistance to set up the club and then guidance and support thereafter. The first Interact club was founded in 1962.

Interact derives its name from the words “international” and “action,” reflecting the nature of an organization that exists in over 100 countries and promotes active service worldwide.   Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through these efforts, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and learn the importance of developing leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others, understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work, and advancing international understanding and goodwill.

Rotarian and faculty advisers play major roles in supporting Interact clubs. The faculty adviser, who is a faculty member at a school-based club, oversees the activities of the Interact club and serves as a liaison between the sponsoring Rotary club and the school administration.  Ms Leah Sahely is the Rotary Club of St Kitts representative and Mr Ron Dublin-Collins is the BHS faculty advisor.

Rotary International is a worldwide service organization for business and professional men and women, with more than 1.2 million members in over 31,000 Rotary clubs. Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today’s most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty, hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They support Rotary youth programs, including Interact, in the belief that young people should take an active interest in community life and have the opportunity to develop leadership skills.
