BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (March 11, 2015) -- At the end of the sixth day of play in the Development Bank Challengers Exodus Basketball League Tuesday evening March 10, unbeaten Kittitian Hill Lions and Bad Boyz were the joint early leaders after each would have amassed a total of 9 points from three games.
However, their supremacy will be put to test on Saturday March 14 when these two unbeaten sides will meet at the Challengers Hard Courts, in what Challengers Exodus Basketball Team Manager Mr Roger Gumbs has promised to be an epic game not to be missed.
Bad Boyz reported to the courts with mixed feelings. Their game against Exodus Alliance was initially meant to be the second game of the evening, but because members of one of the teams supposed to play first game were involved in a football game at Sandy Point, Bad Boyz and Exodus Alliance were asked to get to the court first, causing the game to start late.
Their star player Javal Hodge did not step onto the courts as he was on the benches side lined by an ankle injury from the previous evening. It was a very tight game as they only edged out the spirited Exodus Alliance by a single point, 54-53, a win nonetheless.
For Bad Boyz Dermaime Rawlins scored 15 points, had 10 rebounds and four steals; Karris Douglas scored 14 points, made 6 rebounds and managed three steals; while Ridelle Marshall scored 10 points and recorded two rebounds.
For exodus Alliance, Alvin Nias scored 12 points, recorded 8 rebounds and three steals; Melvon Bassue scored 11 points, and had 7 rebounds and three assists; while Chesney James managed 8 points, and 13 rebounds.
The second game for the night saw Hurricanes overcome Exodus Juniors 69-52 with the winning team’s Denver Farrell amassing 15 points, 4 rebounds and two steals.
Others on the Hurricane team side were Kayton Blake who scored 14 points and managed four steals; while his younger brother Khyton Blake also scored 14 points and recorded three rebounds.
For Exodus Juniors, Raheem Searles scored 15 points and managed five rebounds; Khalil Farirer scored 14 points and had five rebounds; while Javier Sutton scored 9 points and made 11 rebounds.
In earlier games played on Thursday March 5, Hurricanes defeated Wolf Pack 71-61; Kittitian Hill Lions defeated Quakers 80-51; on Saturday March 7, Exodus Juniors edged Exodus Alliance 71-70 in overtime; and Bad Boyz defeated Heights 68-46; and on Sunday March 8, Kittitian Hill Lions defeated Wolf Pack 75-68; and Quakers defeated Runners 77-55.
Point standings as at March 10, Kittitian Hill Lions and Bad Boyz each have 9 points from three games and are the only unbeaten teams. Quakers having played three games and lost one are in joint second position with Hurricanes who also have played three games and lost one, with a total of seven points each.
Others are Exodus Alliance, five points (played three, won one); Exodus Juniors, four points (won one, lost one); Wolf Pack, three points (3 losses); Runners, two points (two losses); and Heights, two points (two losses).
The games, which are being refereed by Nigel ‘Jades’ Burroughs, Rawlston ‘Speed’ Richardson, Shawn ‘Shabba’ Forbes, and Troy Merritt, continue on Thursday March 12 with Runners taking on Exodus Alliance at 6:30 pm, and Heights taking on Wolf Pack at 8:00 pm.
Other games in this exciting Development Bank Challengers Exodus Basketball League will be played on Saturday March 14 and Sunday March 15 at the Challengers Basketball Hard Courts.
