BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A midday high-speed chase along the FT Williams that ended in Newtown resulted in another firearm and a quantity of ammunition being taken off the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis.

According to eyewitness account, shortly after 12:00 p.m. yesterday (Mar. 10), police officers in two vehicles, one driven by an Inspector, were in hot pursuit of two men on a motorcycle along the FT Williams Highway.

A police communiqué confirmed the high-speed chase and informed that while driving along the FT Williams at about 12:30 p.m., officers of the Special Services Unit (SSU) had intercepted two males on a motorcycle who drew their suspicion of having arms and ammunition in their possession.

It also informed that the men sped away on the motorcycle and a chase ensued, which ended at George Street, Newtown in the vicinity of C&C Superfoods where the duo was told of the lawmen’s suspicion.

“A search was carried out on their person which resulted in the discovery and seizure of a loaded semi-automatic pistol. The firearm and ammunition along with the men and motorcycle were taken into police custody. They will be charged for various offences as a result of the chase,” the communiqué stated.

Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley commended the officers for their keen observation, pursuit and arrest of the two men and is asking the general public to support the Police Force in its pursuit of making the Federation a safer place for all.

This is the fourth firearm in 10 days to have been taken off the streets of the twin-island Federation.

The first was on Sunday (Mar. 1), which is suspected to have been involved in the murder of Jason Bradshaw-Francis of Grove Village, St. Paul’s who was attacked by three armed, masked assailants at Rawlins Housing Project.

The second one was discovered on Tuesday (Mar. 3) when members of a routine Delta Squad patrol stopped and searched two young men from St. Paul’s Village who were travelling in the opposite on a four-wheel ATV on the outskirts of Cayon in the vicinity of Windsor University, while the third one was on Friday (Mar. 6) when members of the SSU conducted an operation in the Springfield Cemetery.
