Former Ministers’ US visas revoked…says Marcella Liburd

The Hon. Marcella Liburd

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE current Team Unity administration is being blamed for the revocation of visas contained within diplomatic passports held by ministers of the former St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party-led administration.

The charge was levelled by Chairman of the SKNLP and Opposition Parliamentarian the Hon. Marcella Liburd while speaking on Freedom FM’s ‘ISSUES’ yesterday afternoon (Mar. 10).

“The US visas in the diplomatic passports carried by all former ministers have been cancelled. So the US visa for Rickey Skerritt has been cancelled, myself, Dr. Martin, the former Attorney General, you name it, have all been cancelled…obviously at the request of this government. They all have been cancelled.

“You get the visas as you know along with your ministerial and other…papers. So all of the visas in those passports have been cancelled for all of us at the request of this government.”

She dismissed as “propaganda” suggestions that the US visa for the former Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L Douglas, was retracted a week prior to the last General Elections which were held in mid-February 2015.

Liburd however did not indicate, whether from knowledge of opinion, when the revocation of the visas took place but was adamant that it was done at the behest of the sitting government.

Briefly addressing the issue of diplomatic passports held by former Ministers of Government, Liburd said she understands that they are being asked to turn them in and indicated that former Deputy Prime Minister Asim Martin had turned his in and it has already been revoked.
