Bar-B-Que vendor succumbs to gunshot injury

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has recorded its 11th homicide for the year with the death of Bar-B-Que vendor Malcolm Cozier, who was shot in the early morning of Saturday (Mar. 7).

Information reaching SKNVibes states that Cozier, who is also known as Malcolm Dyer, died earlier today (Mar. 14) at the Joseph N France General Hospital.

According to a source who preferred to remain unnamed, he had visited and spoken to Malcolm this morning and was surprised to have learnt of his passing after he seemed to have been “recuperating nicely”.

Cozier/Dyer was in the region of his chest shot at about 3:00 a.m. in proximity of his West Bourne Ghaut home and was since then hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit.

According to family sources, Cozier, who plies his trade under a tree on the western end of the bridge opposite Coury’s Hardware Store on the Bay Road in Basseterre, was shot while removing his cooking utensils and other items from a cart he had parked outside his home.

“I learnt that sometime after 3:00 going to 4:00 this morning after Malcolm had reached home, he had taken some of the things that he uses to prepare his Bar-B-Que from his cart and put them in his house.

“The cart was parked on West Bourne Ghaut just outside the alley where he lives. However, when he went to back to get the remaining stuff, I understand that someone shot him. I strongly believe that robbery was the motive,” a family member told this publication.

SKNVibes understands that Cozier is in his 40s and is a former Special Constable of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

A release from the Police Public Relations Department had indicated that the matter is being investigated but, to date, no one was held in connection with it.

They have however asked that anyone with information on this incidents to call the nearest police station, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477.

Malcolm Cozier, a.k.a Malcolm Dyer, is the 11th person to have been murdered in the Federation for the year; nine on St. Kitts and two on sister isle Nevis.
