March 18th, 2015 -- The Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) of the Organization of American States (OAS) will hold its fifteenth regular session on March 19 and 20, 2015 at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington, DC.
The two-day meeting will be divided into sessions during which member states will discuss the issues of “Physical Infrastructure: energy, financial, transportation and telecommunications systems,” “Security of Tourism and Recreational Facilities: a Multidimensional Approach,” and “Critical Digital Infrastructure: Cyber Security.” The opening ceremony of the event will feature presentations by the OAS Secretary General, José Miguel Insulza; the Interim Representative of Canada to the OAS, Jennifer May Loten, on behalf of the Chair of CICTE; and the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (UNCTED), Weixiong Chen.
As part of the meeting the Third Meeting of the National Points of Contact will also take place. It is also expected that the authorities will approve the CICTE Work Plan and the Draft Declaration entitled "Protection of Critical Infrastructure from Emerging Threats." CICTE is composed of all member states of the OAS and its main purpose is to promote and develop cooperation among member states to prevent, combat and eliminate terrorism, in accordance with the principles of the OAS Charter, and the Inter-American Convention Against Terrorism.
The inaugural session that will take place on Thursday 19 at 15:30 EDT (19:30 GMT) will be open to the press.
