Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 13, 2015 (SKNIS) - The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College CFBC yesterday opened its doors on Thursday (March 12) to showcase a vast amount of academic and working career opportunities for current and prospective students at this year’s Open Day and Career Fair.
Academic booths on display included Midwestern State University, The University of the West Indies (UWI) and a tent which featured the new Bachelor’s in Nursing Degree at CFBC.
Working career booths included St. Kitts Masonry Products, Kittitian Hill, Christophe Harbour and St. Kitts Agro-Processing Unit.
The significance of the event was pointed out by President of the College Dr. Kelvin Daly.
“It is indeed an important activity in the life of this or any other college, for it is now we get an opportunity to highlight all of the many reasons why your enrolment at CFBC is a win, win for all of us,” Dr. Daly noted.
Minister of Education the Hon. Shawn Richards said it is important for the college to have such an event.
“As the Federation moves towards a more technical and service economy, the career guidance process has to start early,” Minister Richards noted. “Students need to be exposed to possible careers that they may be interested in. I know that some students go through college and still cannot make up their minds about a career, but with all of the partners here today, the students will have a lot of ideas from which to choose.”
Some of the students shared what they thought about the Open Day and Career Fair.
“I think it’s very helpful to the future students and it can help them with their careers and help them to decide what they want in their future,” said CFBC student Delicia Sommrah.
“I think it’s a good idea to expose the high school and college students because it’s a lot harder when you finish college to find a University. So I think at this point, when you’re actually in college, I think it’s a good idea to know about the Universities available,” explained another CFBC student.
