Development Bank Challengers Exodus Basketball League: Lions leap to the top

Current Development Bank Challengers Exodus Basketball League leaders, Kittitian Hill Lions on Saturday March 14
Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (March 18, 2015) -- When the two unbeaten teams in the on-going Development Bank Challengers Exodus Basketball League met in the cool of Saturday evening March 14 on the Challengers basketball hard courts, one team was bound to cave in.

Bad Boyz and Kittitian Hill Lions were unbeaten prior to that game, each having had won three games. Was the game going to the decider? Basketball pundits have refused to commit their word now that the league is still on-going, with friendly caution that anything could happen on the basketball court.

In the second game of the evening, Kittitian Hill Lions overcame their worthy opponents, Bad Boyz, 76 to 71. Dreadlocked Delvin Marshall of the Lions worked extra had to ensure that they came on top by scoring a total of 20 points, and forcing 11 rebounds.

Backing Marshall were Jouvette Leader (19 points, 4 rebounds) and Ansel Revan (11 points, 8 rebounds). For Bad Boyz Taslin Hodge, whose brother and team’s star player Javal is side-lined by an ankle injury, scored 24 points and had two assists. Others were Ridelle Marshall (23 points, three steals), and Dermaine Rawlins (14 points, 14 rebounds).

In the first game played on Saturday, Wolf Pack had a narrow win over Exodus Juniors 72-70. Topping for Wolf Pack were Esmond Andrews (14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists); Stanley Willett (9 points, 5 steals); and Raheem Desuza (9 points, 2 steals). Exodus Juniors who put up a spirited fight had Danya Phillip (18 points, 12 rebounds); Javier Sutton (11 points, three rebounds); and Jamal Sutton (9 points, 10 rebounds).

Sunday saw only one game being played where Heights, which as at that time was the only team not to have won a game, ended their losing run when they convincingly beat Quakers 81 to 61.

Top scoring were, for Heights, Shawn Forbes (22 points, 13 rebounds); Ray Liddie (18 points, two assist); and Alex Thomas (14 points, 10 rebounds); while for Quakers it was Tyrone Southwell (14 points, 6 rebounds); Akil Martin (12 points, 11 rebounds); and Steve Percival (14 points, 10 rebounds).

Two games were played on Tuesday (March 17). In the first game Runners defeated Exodus Juniors 70 to 65; while in the second game Wolf Pack defeated Exodus Alliance 67 to 56.

In the first game top scorers were, for Runners, Calvin Wallace (29 points, 5 assist, 5 steal); Maxwell Bass (12 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists); and Emanuel Richardson (12 points, 4 rebounds); while for Exodus Juniors were Javier Sutton (16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists); Raheem Searles (14 points, 6 rebounds); and Danya Phillip (12 points, 7 rebounds).

In the second game top scorers were, for Wolf Pack, Esmond Andrews (20 points, 11 rebounds, 6 steals), Calbert Dore (16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists); and Stanley Willett (11 points, 15 rebounds, three assists); while doing duty for Exodus Alliance were Alvin Nias (23 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists); Marvit Elliot (14points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists); and Chesney James (8 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists).

League standing as at Tuesday 17 March, Kittitian Hill Lions were leading with 12 points from four games with no loss, followed by Bad Boyz with 10 points, from four games with one loss, while in the third place are Wolf Pack with 9 points from 5 games (won two and lost three).

According to Development Bank Challengers Exodus Basketball Club’s Team Manager, Mr Roger Gumbs, games continue on Thursday March 19 at the Challengers basketball hard courts with two games on the card. First game will feature Hurricanes against Quakers; while the second game will have Heights playing Wolf Pack.
