Romania - “We are here to help” is the message of a new IOM information campaign in Romania reaching out to irregular migrants and asylum seekers from third countries who would like to voluntarily return home.
The information campaign, launched by IOM's office in Romania, is built around multilingual TV and radio spots and printed materials to raise awareness about the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programme that is available to asylum seekers, irregular migrants, and those who may have lost their legal right to stay in Romania.
IOM's AVRR programmes provide a humane option for dignified return and reintegration to migrants who wish to return voluntarily to their respective countries of origin.
Migrants who choose to participate in the programme benefit from a one-way flight ticket, pocket money, and vocational training before departure as well as reintegration support in their country of origin.
IOM also helps migrants in Romania obtain travel documents from their country's diplomatic mission if they do not have them.
One hundred twenty people benefitted from IOM Romania's AVRR programme in 2014. Forty-nine of these were provided with reintegration assistance in their home countries. Filipinos were among the top beneficiaries, followed by migrants from Iraq, Pakistan and Tunisia.
The campaign spots will run for three months on national TV and radio stations. To better address the target audience, the TV spot is running in English with Romanian subtitles, while radio spots will be broadcast in English, Arabic, French and Chinese.
