NY  --  The Organisation for International Development (OID), a US-based volunteer organization that provides free medical, dental and nursing services to needy citizens of the Caribbean, North and South America, India, and Africa will celebrate its silver anniversary (25 years) with two events in April.

The organization will host a Thanksgiving Service on Friday, April 17 at First United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon, New York and close out its celebration on Sunday, April 19 with its Annual Fundraising Spring Luncheon at the Greentree Country Club in New Rochelle, NY.

Dr Roy Streete, founder of OID and a team of over 40 volunteer doctors, nurses, dentists, medical students and emergency care and rehab personnel recently returned from a one week trip to Jamaica where they provided free medical and dental services to over 1,000 residents in St. James and Portland. The team treated patients with ailments ranging from high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes and respiratory problems.

“Over the past 25 years I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most caring humanitarians on this planet. I do look forward to continuing our global journey in healing the sick and educating the masses,” Dr. Streete told the Gleaner.

The OID was established in 1990 when seven young Jamaican born dentists led by Dr. Streete and two hygienists from the Bronx set out for a rural community in Western Jamaica to volunteer their services to residents who didn’t have access to dental care due to the lack of financial means.

Now, the group host medical missions in Ghana, Ethiopia, the Caribbean, India, and within the U.S. OID also sponsors vocational training programs, help rebuild dilapidated homes, assist academically talented students and spearhead the building of health centers and libraries. The organization also provides computer science, electrical engineering and technology training and hold science fairs to perk students’ interest in science and technology.
