Wednesday 25th March 2015, Bridgetown, Barbados  --  Digicel today officially launched the 2015 Digicel Kickstart Clinics which will see the region’s top youth footballers from across nine different countries being put through their paces by coaches from the Chelsea FC Foundation.

The Digicel Kickstart Clinics programme is now in its eighth year and is being hosted by coaches from the Chelsea FC Foundation for the third year. The Clinics are designed to develop the Caribbean’s aspiring young footballers through intense two-day training sessions. During the Clinics, the Chelsea coaches will be taking the boys through a programme which will test various aspects of their game including their speed, skill, agility and technical ability as well as life skills such as hard work and discipline. At the end of each Clinic, three boys will be selected to attend the one-week Digicel Academy which will be held later this year.

Digicel Group Head of Sponsorship, James Wynne, said; “The Digicel Kickstart Clinics have no doubt produced top-class footballing talent over the years as is seen by many players who have been awarded football scholarships or gone on to play for their national teams. The Digicel Kickstart Clinics not only develop the players’ physical talents but also encourage them to achieve their full potential off the field – which is in line with the goal of building a total player.”

In celebration of this year’s Special Olympics World Summer Games, Digicel will also be showing its support by donating Chelsea FC football gear to the Special Olympics Associations and special needs organisations in each of the participating markets. During their visit, the Chelsea coaches will be passing on their tips for success and good wishes to the Special Olympics athletes.

Chelsea FC Foundation’s Senior International Football Development Officer, David Monk, said; “For the past three years, there has been tremendous development in the level of talent we have seen and we are excited to once again train the region’s best youth footballers – employing the techniques we use in the Chelsea FC Youth programme.

“Being a part of the Clinics is a great opportunity for the thousands of aspiring young footballers to better understand the game of football and develop their skills – both on and off the field. I encourage all those in attendance in each country to give it your all and enjoy this wonderful opportunity,” continued Monk.
