BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A CARIFTA Games official here in St. Kitts and Nevis has assured that the event would not be affected by a threatened LIAT’s industrial action.
In a recent article on Caribbean 360, it was indicated that the regional carrier’s pilots are contemplating industrial action during the Easter weekend over two firings in 2014.
The article reads: “Travelers were placed on alert for possible industrial action by pilots of the regional airline LIAT, with the financially strapped company warning that its employees were using a “cynical tactic to exploit the fears of the traveling public” particularly over the Easter weekend.”
LIAT is the official carrier of the Games.
In an interview on ZIZ television’s programme ‘The Round Table’, Director of Marketing for CARIFTA 2015 Lester Hanley gave assurances that LIAT would hold up its end of the deal.
“I will say it this way...LIAT is a partner of the 2015 CARIFTA Games. We have had this conversation and they have assured us that LIAT understands its role in the Games and they will do what they need to do to help to have a successful Games.”
The CARIFTA Games is scheduled to take place at the Silver Jubilee Stadium from April 3-6 with 25 participating countries.
