24-slip Marina opened at Christophe Harbour

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE 24-berth super yacht marina which Christophe Harbour now boasts was recently revealed to the media as part of a tour featuring progress made at the development over the past 12-18 months.

The group of about 10 media operatives arrived at the site on Wednesday (Mar. 25) to find approximately 12 vessels – the largest being a 200-footer – berthed in the slips.

It was only in June of last year that the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Marina and about eight months later, on February 14, the Marina was officially opened for business.

Chief Executive Officer and owner of Christopher Harbour Buddy Darby told the media that just over the past month some 150 boats have berthed at the Marina, which is evident that word on the newly-constructed facility and the possibilities with which it comes are quickly spreading.

He said it is exciting to see this type of business come to the Federation as rapidly as it has.

The slips range from 150 feet to 200 feet and, according to Darby, the Maria would boast of up to 250 slips once the other phases of the project are completed.

Currently, 11 of the existing 24 slips have been sold.

Katherine Verano, Christophe Harbour’s Marketing Director, said the Marina is only in its infancy stage, but as it grows so would the endless opportunities for entrepreneurs.

“In the Marina Village, the shore-side construction will begin soon. We’ll have retail opportunities, we’ll have provisioning services, any number of different trades, whether it’s maintenance, repairs, the list is endless. The opportunities are ripe for anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit to take advantage of it…”

Most of the vessels at the Marina were either constructed by or had work done on them by one of the Pendennis Boatyard located in England.

Pendennis’ Sales and Marketing Director Toby Allies was also present at the media tour and publically thanked the Christophe Harbour team for the great welcome it gave.

That leg of the tour concluded with the media being taken to a particular lookout point where most of the vessels were viewed setting sail and heading southward.
