Press Release

Kingston, Jamaica 24.03.2015  --  After nearly a decade of research and months of anticipation, the book, “The Genealogy Of Reggae 1200BC - 2012AD”, is now available on Amazon.com in digital format.

A must read for Reggaephiles of all generations, the book is one of the most extensive literary works to date on the history and influence of one of the world’s most loved cultural artforms.

Compiled in an easy to read format, the book immerses the reader into a wealth of new information, highlighting over 60 genres and subsets, with historical references, detailed indices of time, game changers, genres and places, complemented by a family tree database designed to enhance the reader’s appreciation and knowledge of the Jamaican soundscape.

Dr. Sonjah N. Stanley Niaah, senior cultural studies lecturer at the University of the West Indies Mona, and author of the critically acclaimed “From Slave Ship To Ghetto”, lauded the release of the book stating, “The work on Reggae from Jamaicans continues to increase and this is very positive…The value of this book is timeless and will be referenced for generations."

The Genealogy of Reggae is authored by Data Scientist and Neo-Reggae Musicologist Lloyd Laing, who serves as Project Director and Founder of the cultural data repository, The Jamaica Data Mine, which publishes the Reggaetop100.com listing and The weekly Global Reggae Industry Average(GRIA) Index Report.

He is the Managing Editor of The Jamaican Gazette Clashen.com, and has contributed to the development of the Neo-Reggae genre, creating platforms of exposure for artists such as Noddy Virtue, Jah Cure, Courtney John, Nomaddz, Jah 9, Protoje, and Tommy Lee Sparta, just to name a few.

The Genealogy of Reggae is Laing’s second non-fiction work, serving as a follow up to 2013’s “The Books Of Rastafari”, which has earned acclaim in Germany as “A Gem of the Rastafarian Movement”.

The Genealogy Of Reggae will be available in print format May 1st, 2015.
