The Federation was represented at Tsunami Conference in Muscat, Oman

    Basseterre, St. Kitts-  Inspector Lyndon David of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) attend the ‘Reducing Tsunami Risk in the Western Indian Ocean’ conference which was held in Muscat, Oman from the 22nd-23rd of March 2015. Inspector David left the Federation on Thursday 19 March 2015 and returned on Thursday 26  March 2015.

     

    The meeting which was organized by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and Oman’s Directorate General of Meteorology, Public Authority for Civil Aviation focused on the West Indian Ocean tsunami hazard.

     

    Inspector David stated that “This trip was very informative and educational, and he has gained knowledge which has enhanced his knowledge of tsunamis and the function of the Tsunami Warning Centres (TWC) and Tsunami Warning Focal Points (TWFP). The conference also highlighted the importance and need of early warning systems, and the capability of the responding departments/agencies to disasters; tsunamis.”

     

    Inspector David, is the Press and Public Relations Officer of the RSCNPF, and is also the Coordinator of the Tsunami Warning Focal Point (TWFP) in the Federation. The TWFP is located at Telecommunications Department at Police Headquarters.
