Press Release (TUCOM)

Thursday April 9th 2015 (TUCOM):- Expectations are high in Kingston, Jamaica as CARICOM leaders prepare for a short encounter with US President BARACK OBAMA later today. The Summit which is being held at the UWI's MONA Campus will deal with three specific areas including energy security, the spread of terrorism and economic development.

St.Kitts-Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris has called for an integrated approach to discussions during the expected 90 minute Summit with the US President Obama at the UWI Campus.

Dr. Harris expressed the view during discussions at the special CAUCUS meeting among CARICOM Heads last evening (Wednesday April 8th). Dr. Harris suggested that the integrated approach would not only improve US-Caricom relations but also enhance the region’s Integration Movement.

Prime Minister Harris said “I believe if we can get that mechanism where there is a recalibration of the relationship between the US and Caricom going forward that it would result in a stronger, firmer relationship which would be better for all.”

The SUMMIT is a follow up to one held earlier this year with Caricom Leaders and US Vice President Joseph Biden
