Development Bank Challengers Exodus Basketball League: Lions edge out Heights in a nail-biter

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (April 10, 2015) -- The first of a possible three finals in the Development Bank Challengers Exodus Basketball League played on Thursday evening April 9 at the Challengers basketball hard court left fans properly thrilled as Flawless Construction Lions employed all ammunition in their arsenal to edge out a spirited Heights 72-71.

     

    Since the league started on February 28, with nine teams taking part, this was the most intense and competitive game. When the two teams met during the league games, on Saturday March 28, Lions overcame Heights in a cushioned win of 72-66. They did not have that luxury Thursday night.

     

    According to the Development Bank Challengers Exodus Basketball League chief statistician, and also team manager, Mr Roger Gumbs, there were numerous lead changes throughout the entire game but in the end Lions won by the narrowest of margin, 72-71.

     

    Heights had taken an early lead, holding it at 20-18 after the first quarter, while Lions led 38-35 at halftime. After three quarters the scores were tied at 55 and at the end of regulation time Lions had outsmarted Heights with Ansel Revan pulling the trick.

     

    “As a matter of fact Heights led by six points with less than a minute to go in the game,” recalls Gumbs. “Lions were actually trailing by two points about five seconds when national player and Exodus player Ansel Revan of Lions sunk a three pointer that won the game for Lions.”

     

    For Flawless Construction Lions, Delvin Marshall scored 19 points, made 11 rebounds and four assists. Others on his team were Ansel Revan who scored 17 points, made 9 rebounds and four assists; and Rondell Francis who scored 15 points while he made three assists.

     

    For the losing side, Ray Liddie scored 22 points and made two assists, Glenn ‘Ghost’ Phillip scored 18 points, made 11 rebounds and four blocks; and Alex Thomas scored 13 points, made 12 rebounds and two assists.

     

    The second game of the possible three games in the final of the Development Bank Challengers Exodus Basketball League will be played at the same venue on Tuesday April 14 starting from 7:30 pm.
