BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SKNVIBES has confirmed that High Court Registrar Janine Harris-Lake is back on the job after more than a year and a half forced leave.
She returned yesterday (Apr. 13).
Harris-Lake was sent on 64-days vacation leave in September 2013 and was subsequently told via letter that she was being redeployed to perform duties as the Director of Legal Reform.
That position, according to some, was created without thought of job description, function or responsibilities. And SKNVibes understands that Harris-Lake was diligent in showing up for work at that office since her “appointment” there.
Harris-Lake however was still officially carrying the title of Registrar of the High Court and in November last she made an attempt to resume her duties but was unsuccessful, because the individual who was acting in her stead was absent. Her presence would have facilitated a smooth transition.
Harris-Lake is the sister of Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris who, at the time of these occurrences, was part of the Opposition.
In a previous interview with SKNVibes, Dr. Harris had expressed his belief that Harris-Lake was being treated the way she was because of the bloodline between the two of them.
He accused the former administration of injecting politics into the legal system by attacking his sister and having her shifted from her Registrar post.
This publication understands that among Harris-Lake’s first orders of business was to travelled to Nevis, which she did today (Apr. 14), for the commencement of the April Criminal Assizes.
