BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TEN employees, including three women, of the TDC Group of Companies on St. Kitts were today (Apr. 17) presented with certificates of competence, having successfully completed courses in Pneumatics and Hydraulics and Inventory Management.

The employees are spread across a number of departments of the Group which have operations heavily dependent on these fields.

The training was a collaborative effort among the St. Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC), UTech Jamaica, the European Union, the University of the West Indies and the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA).

A brief ceremony highlighting the employees’ accomplishments was held at TDC’s Training Room which was attended by, among others, the Group’s Chairman Earl Kelly and Executive Director of the CIC Calvin Cable.

Successfully completing the Pneumatics and Hydraulics Course were Evron Adams of the Automotive Division and Julian Bryan and Tristan Gumbs of the Electrical Services Department.

Bryan also received a certificate for completing an Intermediate Electronics Course.

Assistant Manager of the TDC Business Centre Frank Claxton, Inventory Clerk Yasmin Jacobs, Supervisor Dale Hicks, Operations Manager of the Automotive Division Connie Richards, Assistant Manager of the Home and Building Depot Iston Williams, Inventory Supervisor of the Home and Building Depot Glenford Williams and Home and Building Depot Supervisor Trevor Walter all successfully completed the Inventory Management Course.

Bryan told the media that the courses were beneficial, eye-opening and information-packed. He declared that he would enjoy receiving further training.

Hicks described her course as informative and noted that she gained valuable pieces of information which would assist her and the company in managing its inventory.

In giving brief remarks, Cable noted that the Chamber continues to respond to the needs of the business sector, especially those in the technical area. He highlighted one of the objectives of such training as ensuring that high-tech training is given, which would result in occupancy of higher levels within the technical and managerial structures of companies.

He also said that he was pleased with the level of participation and thanked the European Union through the CEDA for providing the majority of funds for the training.

TDC’s Kelly congratulated the employees on their accomplishment and expressed that training is one of the hallmarks of the Group. He said it has and continues to invest in training because the better trained employees are, the greater the positive impact on the Group’s bottom line.

Next week Wednesday, a similar ceremony is expected to be held in Nevis, where those who successfully completed the training will be recognised and given certificates to reflect the different competencies.
