Break-in at Warner Park offices; computers stolen

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OFFICES situated in Warner Park were broken into and ransacked sometime between yesterday afternoon (Apr. 20) and this morning, resulting in the loss of several computer systems.

SKNVibes understands that among the offices broken into are those of the Stadium Manager, St. Kitts Cricket Association (SKCA) and the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA).

President of the SKCA Dennis Phillip told SKNVibes that he received a call earlier this morning indicating that he should report to Warner Park with immediacy, and on arrival he found that the locks on the doors of the SKCA and LICA offices were destroyed and the offices vandalized.
He said six computers were stolen; two from the SKCA office and four from the LICA’s.

Phillip said his main concern is that the computers formed an integral part of the process of rebuilding the sports discipline on the island and he made a plea for them to be returned.

“Our concern is that we have just started to rebuild cricket (and) our computer systems are gone. I want to make an appeal to those persons who would have broken in to think about it and consider even returning the goods that they would have taken. Those things would have been put in place to serve the youth, to serve our community, to help rebuild cricket, to help people to have meaningful activities. And so I am making an appeal, if you have to put them on a church step, put them somewhere, make a call…”

He said some of the computers were donated and contain “information that is relevant to the ongoing courses in terms of coaching, cricket development. They carry stats of the players etc., and we are losing a great deal of history, a great deal of information and we certainly would love to get that back”.

Phillip said it appeared that the perpetrator(s) were looking for money but advised that monies would not be found in the offices as they are always deposited with one of the local banks.

The Cricket President said it was only recently the offices were reorganised and, because of this incident, a further reorganisation would have to be undertaken as well as repairs to areas that were compromised during the break-in.
