WHAT A CELEBRATION OF DANCE TREASURES!

By: CDT, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS  (APRIL 21, 2015) Energetic, creative, magical are but a few words that came to mind with the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium abuzz with excitement this past weekend. It was that time of year as loyal fans of the Children's Dance Theatre filled this space to witness yet another thrilling performance. This was not just another production, however. The Theatre was celebrating its 25th anniversary and what an amazing evening it was! As the dancers burst onto the stage in the first number dubbed "Fuego", the place was set ablaze with color, rhythm and the magical movements of the dancers.

Themed "Celebrating Dance Treasures", the Children's Dance Theatre's silver celebration was a spectacle indeed. In the first segment, the captive audience was taken down memory lane and given an insight into the early days of the Theatre from its inception in 1989. Past students relived  their experience at the Theatre, storing  the many "treasures" in a symbolic trunk for posterity. For many in the audience, especially those who would have been at the very first production of the Theatre, it was a night tinged with nostalgia as memories of yesteryear came rushing back with the video presentation of the earlier years. The performance of "Glory" spoke of the successes of the Theatre over the years despite many challenges, while "I Was Here" was a testimony of affirmation, triumph and longevity. There were special guest performances by Creative Sole Dance Company and Fireflies Dance School.

The choreography was superb and spoke to the creativity and hard work of the tutors Heidi Slack, Shara-Lee Mourillon, Krystal Glasford, Shanda Labega,Taji Hamilton and Roberitine Webbe. It would appear that they outdid themselves this time, presenting what was a truly spectacular  performance. All of the dancers, even the very young, displayed an energy which was palpable. The audience was obviously spellbound by the nimbleness of the dancers as, number after number, they took ownership of the stage and made the night theirs. The finale "We Want More" brought a fitting end to the evening as the dancers and tutors made their last appearance before the curtain came down on another magical production. One glance at the audience spoke volumes - the patrons had thoroughly enjoyed themselves and wanted more!

The Children's Dance Theatre and its Director Julie Martin deserve great commendation and much praise for giving us twenty-five wonderful years of beautiful dance. The Theatre has helped to shape the lives of many young people and continues so to do. It is a testimony of hard work reaping huge dividends in our Federation. It is a Silver Jubilee which, from all accounts, is tinged with gold. Clearly, the Director and tutors have the Midas touch as has been evident over all these years. Long live the Children's Dance Theatre!
