St. Kitts dominate Nevis in Inter-Island Meet

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PRIMARY SCHOOL athletes in St. Kitts and Nevis came up in friendly rivalry as the St. Kitts Teachers Union (SKTU) and the Nevis Teachers Union (NTU) hosted an Inter-Island Primary Championships at the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium on yesterday (May 2).

The meet was however dominated by the Kittitian athletes who captured 39 gold medals to the five won by the Nevisians.

Off the track however, the stands were filled with Nevisians who clearly outnumbered the home crowd.

Contributing four gold medals to team St. Kitts’ tally was Ayazmia Dolphin, who continued her impressive run from the Ram’s Primary School Championships, winning the U-11 Long Jump, High Jump, Cricket Ball Throw and 100m.

Also impressing for team St. Kitts was Rafique Morson, who captured the Under-13 Boys 200 and 400 metres as well as leading team St. Kitts to a relay victory.

Josana Williams also showed her class in the U-13 field events, winning the Long and High Jumps as well as the Cricket Ball Throw.

Zion Huggins also contributed two goal medals for St. Kitts when he won the U-13 Long and High Jumps.

Impressing for Nevis was T'Anna Liburd, who recorded wins in the 400 and 800m in the U-11 Girls category.

Adding two gold medals for Nevis as well was Tywayne Roberts, who sprinted his way to victory in the 200 and 400m despite a strong challenge from Mitchell Richards of St. Kitts.

Romario Morgan of Nevis won the hearts of many in the U-11 800 and 1200m despite not winning both, but because of the strength and stamina he shown to fight back every time he lost the lead.

The proceeds from the meet would be divided equally and shared between both teachers unions and will assist in them attending the Caribbean Teachers Union Games in BVI next year.
