- Kickstart players best in Antigua
Monday 4th May 2015 – Antigua: The Digicel Kickstart Clinics came to its penultimate stop in Antigua and Barbuda where 30 aspiring young footballers played at an extremely high level to impress the National Team scouts who were present.
The Chelsea FC coaches led the young footballers through a very professional and intense two-day clinic to improve and hone their footballing skills and efficiency both on and off the pitch.
Chelsea FC Foundation Senior International Football Development Officer, David Monk added; “They were very compact at the back and communicated well with their midfield players. When moving forward, they were tactical and patient and would shred any defense with one precise pass. The boys were focused and committed to learning new skills and techniques to improve their game.”
The Digicel Kickstart Clinics have no doubt played a role in the development of football across the Caribbean. Antigua for example, is currently ranked fourth place in the footballing nations in the Caribbean and a number of the footballers were recruited through the Digicel Kickstart programme.
David Monk said; “The programme has done wonders for the young footballers across the Caribbean. The Antiguan boys think and play at a high level making this country worthy of its fourth place ranking in the region. I have watched many develop into big, strong, committed footballers over the years – and I am sure they will represent their nation well.”
