BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Team Unity Government has announced that it would be heading to Parliament late next week where it is expected that some insight into the Government’s “aggressive legislative agenda” would be given.

The announcement was made today (May 6) by Attorney-General the Hon. Vincent Byron Jr. via an audio recording disseminated by the Government’s Information Service.

The AG informed that yesterday he had delivered the proclamation – which indicates when the Parliament is to convene – to the Governor-General, His Excellency Sir Edmund Lawrence, and it was signed.

He said on next Thursday (May 14) the session would be held commencing at 10:00 a.m. at Government Headquarters.

“This will be an historic day. It will also be a pivotal step in this Government laying the framework for the implementation of the prosperity agenda that will ensure a fair share for all.”

At that sitting, it is expected that the Governor-General would deliver the Throne Speech and, in accordance with the specifications of the Constitution of St. Christopher and Nevis, as the first order of business, the Speaker of the House would be selected and appointed after which it is expected that a Deputy Speaker would also be selected and appointed.

Weeks ago at his first press conference since assuming the leadership of the country, Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris had indicated that local businessman Franklin Brand has been approved by Cabinet for nomination for Speaker of the House.

AG Byron said the Government is “excited about the upcoming session and want to reiterate that this Government, your Government, is working for you”.

The session is scheduled to be held some 87 days after the General Elections were held on February 16, 2015.
