BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has informed that the law enforcement body has made significant inroads in the solving of homicides, drug-related and other incidents.

Specifics of the cases, however, have not been disclosed to the public because, as was explained by Commissioner of Police (Ag) Stafford Liburd, family members of the affected individuals would first have to be informed.

Liburd made the announcement on Tuesday (May 12) during the Prime Minister’s press conference which was held in the Parliamentary Lounge at Government Headquarters.

“The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is pleased to announce that over the last two weeks, due to considerable hard work by its members and widespread cooperation of the public and the use of several intelligent-led policing, we have made significant progress in a number of homicides and none-shooting (incidents).”

CoP (Ag) Liburd said the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution had informed him that the criminal proceedings would be initiated against the alleged perpetrators in those matters soonest.

“The Police High Command has been advised by the Officer of the Director of Public Prosecution that they have thoroughly pursued the contents of case reports reviewed and have reviewed cases in accordance with the code for prosecutors and examined the applicable law. It is the indication of the Office of Director of Public Prosecution that criminal proceedings will soon be instituted in respect of these matters.”

Commenting further on the Police Force’s recent successes, Liburd mentioned foiled attempts to smuggle drugs and other items into Her Majesty’s Prison and indicated that arrests were made in that regard.

“But I need the public to be aware that I wish to express thanks a lot to the public. I believe the last two weeks we have seen a lot, and the lot that I’m speaking about is not only what will come with certain homicides, but I however wish to point out that a considerable amount of drugs placed in a banana has been uncovered heading to Her Majesty’s Prison.

“A number of cellphones have also been seized from heading to the penial institution. This again has resulted from the cooperation from the public and, as I alluded to, to intelligence-led policing.”

He took the opportunity to advise and remind the public that the Police Force has no intention of relenting in their fight against crime.

“We are letting the public know that we will not waver or tire in our efforts to reduce crime and violence in our country. And as I speak, the police are actively pursuing those who intend to use or misguide our vulnerable youths to perpetrate serious crime.”
