SKN Youth Leader to represent at Grenada meeting

    May 15th, 2015  --  UWI 2nd year law student, Deputy Chairman of the St Kitts Nevis People Labour Party (SKNPLP) and regional youth activist, Craig Tuckett is one of two youth selected to attend a prestigious regional gathering in Grenada next week. 

     

    The meeting which is being hosted by the UK-funded Caribbean Criminal Asset Recovery Programme (CCARP) will be staging the 2015 Proceeds of Crime Practitioners meeting. 

    The two day meeting will be held on May 20th and 21st in the spice isle of Grenada and is expected to attract a large gathering of youth, academics and professionals from a wide cross section from across the Caribbean.

    A source close to the organisers pointed out that the overarching themes of the conference seeks to address the implementation of confiscation as part of the sentencing process, utilizing open source internet material to improve investigation techniques and the identification of assets, analysing the recent  public surveys on Proceeds Of Criminal Assets (POCA) and the functions of the Financial Intelligence Units (FIU) across the region, with the view to implement change where necessary and the future of assets confiscation in the Eastern Caribbean region. 
     
    It was revealed that among the guest speakers includes a Criminal Justice Advisor in Barbados and the Asset Recovery Advisor for Jamaica and the Overseas Territories. 

    It was stressed that this year’s conference aims at the FIU Directors, Crown Counsel and the Financial Investigators with a view to improving and galvanising a joined up approach in prosecuting and enforcing Proceeds of Crime related offenses. 

    Additionally, the event will be chaired by Mr. Tafawa Pierre who is the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit based in Grenada. 

    It was disclosed that Mr. Tuckett who has been making a positive impact on young people in Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda and his home country St. Kitts and Nevis was selected due to his very impressive track record in community and youth leadership and activism, politics and in the law. 

    He will be joined at this very important meeting by another law student from Dominican in Ms. Annika Bellot.

    Tuckett who is also the Secretary of the St. Kitts Nevis Student Association Cave Hill (SKNSA Cave Hill), a member of UWI STAT said that he is elated with the honour of not only representing his country St. Kitts and Nevis but the entire region.
     
    “As a young man being entrusted with such an opportunity is very over whelming and therefore I am very thankful and grateful that among the many potential persons that could have been selected, I was given this opportunity,” he said.

    “Any and every opportunity that I get at representing fellow young people along with those from the region is something that I yearns for and with this opportunity I am eager to make a meaningful contribution to the issue that will be discussed. This is a very good opportunity at further enhancing and developing my skills and experience as a future leader and I am thankful to all who have been contributing to my holistic growth and development,” he declared.

    Mr. Tuckett who is involved in several events and activities currently serves as the President of the Antigua and Barbuda’s Little League (Baseball), was also Campaign Manager for Hon. Eleston Adams, the former MP for the St. Paul’s constituency in Antigua. He was the Chairman of the UPP National Youth League in Antigua and Barbuda, the President of the Newtown Sports Club and an executive member of the St. Kitts- Nevis Trades and Labour Union.
