BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A female police officer was involved in a traffic accident this morning (May 23) along the F. T. Williams Highway while reportedly transporting a child to the hospital.

The incident, according to information given by the Traffic Department, occurred at about 8:00 a.m. along the western stretch of the road in vicinity of The Cable building.

Officer Marva Huggins of St. Peters was at the time operating motorcar PA467 with two children, a nine-year-old and a one-year-old, in the vehicle with her.

The vehicle is owned by Assistant Commissioner of Police Robert Liburd.

The Traffic Department reports that while travelling westward along the road, Huggins lost control of the vehicle and collided with the perimeter fence, and then with the building.

Huggins and the children were transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment; she complained of chest pains while both children suffered lacerations and bruises to their faces.

The vehicle was extensively damaged and some damage was caused to The Cable building.

Unconfirmed reports suggests that when the incident occurred, Huggins was making an attempt to get one of the children, who was ill, to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Meanwhile officers attached to the Old Road Police Station are looking for a hit-and-run driver who was involved in an accident earlier today.

SKNVibes understands that sometime after 3:00 a.m., police vehicle P4300 was parked in the station’s garage when a motorist collided with in, pushing it into one of the walks of the building in the process.

The driver reportedly fled the scene however, this media house understands that because items of evidentiary value were left behind, a suspect is being sought.

Investigations into both matters are being pursued.
