Top Caribbean cars dominate St. James' Raceway

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - WHILE Juan Pablo Montoya was busy setting the track ablaze at motorsports Indy 500, the St. James' Raceway on Nevis was being scorched by some of fastest cars in the Caribbean in its hosting of the Winfest Drag Racing event.

Balling for supremacy were cars from Antigua, Anguilla, St. Martin, Trinidad and Tobago and host country St. Kitts and Nevis.

With hundreds in attendance, there was an eagerly anticipated battle in the Open Race category.

The first saw two mustangs engaged in battle; a black one from Anguilla and a blue one from St. Martin. The latter car however encountered some difficulty and could not participate in the race, which meant that the former, dubbed ‘Sniper’ had to face dragster Mervin Bonnet from Trinidad and Tobago.

The Sniper however outclassed Mervin Bonnet to capture the race but no longer could have participated in the event following some difficulty.

The next match up in the Open category saw the Mistress out of Antigua battling Good Over Evil from St. Martin.

The Mistress outmatched its opponent, much to the delight of the crowd, as it progressed to the finish line.

Mervin Bonnet then came up against Good Over Evil and the dragster came out tops and advanced to the Final to battle against Mistress.

In the much anticipated Final that would have been decided in a best of three, Mervin Bonnet won the first one but he too suffered some difficulty and was forced to drop out from the competition.

The Mistress was then declared winner of the Open category.

Another exciting battle brewed in the 10 Seconds Category between Decky and Lennny - both from St. Kitts. But it was the latter which was successful after he won the first race and the former false started in the second race.

This event was part of the Winfest activities.
