The Brimstone Hill Society recognises it's "Builders, Supporters and Caretakers" at Gala Awards Banquet

By: Brimstone Hill Society, Press Release

Brimstone Hill Society, May, 29th, 2015  --  On the grounds of the historic Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park on Saturday 26 May, over 300 guests were hosted to a Banquet and Awards Ceremony in honour of the men and women who have contributed at various times over the past 50 years -- many voluntarily, or beyond the bounds of duty -- to the strength of an enduring national institution.

His Excellency Mr. Tapley Seaton, CVO, QC, Acting Governor General, was in attendance. Also present were the Minister of Tourism, Mr.Lindsay Grant and Mrs. Grant, and the Attorney General, Senator Vincent Byron, Jr.

In Welcome Remarks, President of the Society, Sir Probyn Inniss, a former Governor of St. Kitts and Nevis, in speaking to the vision of the founders and pioneers and the dedication of Members and Staff of the Society, referred to some of the highest officers of that voluntary membership organisation which included three former or soon to become Governors or Governors General of St.Kitts and Nevis as well as an Administrator of St. Kitts, Nevis and Anguilla. He invited the guests, both individuals and those representing corporations, to become members.

Senator Byron, deputising for the Prime Minister, in his address, paid homage to the founding members and those who contributed to the Society over the years. He gave assurances of the commitment of Government to the support of organisations like the Brimstone Hill Society, the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society and the St.Christopher National Trust.

Some 20 persons, including several staff members, received awards.

Many other awardees could not be present.

The Banquet Ceremony was chaired by Ms Dawn Mills. It was preceded by a cultural presentation on the Parade Ground.

The Awards Banquet was one event of a number of activities presented this year in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society.
