Press Release

Kingston: For over two years, top Jamaican broadcaster, Richard 'Richie B' Burgess, has been waking up the nation on Mello Daybreak, a programme that has shown tremendous growth under his watch. However, news broke on Friday, that his stint with Mello FM had come to an end.

'I'm no longer presenting on Mello FM, due to a breakdown in prolonged contractual negotiations' Richie B said.

When pressed, he said, "without going into too much detail, a particular benefit that was included in my original contract, was being removed, I thought, unjustifiably and that led to the stalemate."

Mello Daybreak under Richie B's direction, gave the station it's biggest ever listenership in the prime 6am - 9am timeslot, as evidenced in the most recent MRSL All Media Survey. It also took revenues to never before seen heights.

"I wish to thank the management and staff with whom I worked, for the leverage and latitude that I was given to present in what was a new slot for me and for their help in making the programme as successful as it turned out to be" Burgess noted.

He expressed heartfelt thanks 'to the numerous advertisers who demonstrated supreme confidence in his creativity, style and vibe.

"Imagine on one occasion we secured over JA$2.3 million in sponsorship for my three hour show broadcasting from Sam Sharpe Square! Those figures were unheard of, prior, in the Jamaican broadcasting industry'. To the current practitioners I say - top that!" he gushed.

"The loyalty and the bond that was developed with the ardent fans is something that I will cherish. I could always depend on my listeners for constructive critique, comments, commendations and participation in all my innovations" he noted.

When asked 'where do you go from here?', the man dubbed The Party Master said "for now, i'll be dedicating a lot of time and giving a great deal of attention to my latest business venture, an upscale wholesale liquor centre in Kingston. This will keep me quite busy for a while yet" he said.

As for a quick return to radio, he said "If there's a radio station with a good management structure, all island accessibility and technical competence, who needs, probably Jamaica's most exciting early morning show host on their team, I'm ready to commence dialogue" he said with grin.

Burgess reserved special thanks to a set of brothers and sisters whom he calls his 'Peeps in the Streets'.

"They have consistently kept us updated on traffic situations all across the Island in his popular Rush Hour Traffic segment" he noted.

He's also super proud of the exclusive arrangements he established with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to provide daily road safety tips, with a view of reducing the carnage on our roads.

"My deepest gratitude to my family for their continued love, devotion and motivation...they mean the world to me. Who knows where the trade wind blows. Wherever Father God leads, I will follow' he concluded.
