‘Boggieman’ Barry G hosts NYC Summer Concert with Michael Bolton & Billy Ocean

Press Release

NYC: ‘Boggieman’ 'Barry G' Gordon, the current ruler of afternoon radio in Jamaica has a big date in New York. Gordon has been invited to host the 5th annual Groovin' In The Park concert with Grammy winning singer/songwriter Michael Bolton and Billy Ocean - the most successful black recording star from Britain -  on Sunday, June 28  at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens. Other confirmed performers at Groovin In The Park are reggae hit machine Cocoa Tea, Luciano, Stitchie, Capleton and Morgan Heritage.

The veteran broadcaster, who went from radio producer to hosting his own program at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) in the 70's is considered an innovator, an educator and an entertainer. Many people who grew up in Jamaica during the era, still talk with glee about the intense clashes he has had with Kiss FM's David Rodigan from London, England.

“David is my best friend in the radio business....we communicate very often and lament together what is happening in the music business” he once disclosed.

When asked about the secret for his longevity in media Barry said, "I have been able to connect with radio listeners on every radio station I have been on, by my concerted effort to remain creative and original....I always innovate and never copy anyone's style. In an unselfish way I deliberately go out of my way to inform and educate" he noted.

This will be the Boggieman's first trip to New York to host NY's premier reggae & R&B summer concert and Christopher Roberts, founder and CEO of Groovin Inc is excited.

"Barry is the best at what he does. He has been a constant on Jamaican radio for almost four decades. He has reinvented himself and is now entertaining a new generation of radio listeners in Jamaica. I am happy he accepted our invitation and I am sure the thousands of Jamericans who will attend the festival this year will be delighted as well" he noted.

Barry G will shear MC duties at the festival with award winning New York broadcaster Clement "Ras Clem" Hume of Groovin Radio, 93.5 FM.

"I am delighted to work with a renowned broadcaster like Barry G who is easily one of the best out of Jamaica. I grew up listening to him as a youngster. He is my idol and someone I admired a lot" Hume noted.
