Queen’s Birthday To Be Celebrated On June 13 With Grand Parade

    BVI, 10 June 2015 - The birthday of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II will be officially celebrated in the Virgin Islands on Saturday, June 13 with a grand parade and ceremony.

     

    Uniformed bodies, youth organisations, schools and service clubs will lead the procession from the Road Town Police Station to the Festival Grounds at 3:30 p.m.  The ceremony will begin immediately following the parade.

    His Excellency the Governor, Mr. John S. Duncan, OBE will inspect all units of the parade, following which there will be a march past, the hoisting of the Governor’s Standard and the Royal Salute given in honour of Her Majesty.

    Seven officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force will receive medals in honour of their years of service. Five officers will receive the First Clasp to the Overseas Territories Police Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct for 25 years of service, and two officers will receive the Second Clasp to the Overseas Territories Police Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct for 30 years of service.  

    Two officers from the Fire and Rescue Services Department will receive the Overseas Territories Fire Services Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct for 18 years of service and two officers will receive First Clasp to the Overseas Territories Fire Services Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct for 25 years of service.

    Four Officers from Her Majesty’s Prison will receive the Overseas Territories Prison Service Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct for 18 years of service.

    Music will be provided by the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College Jazz Ensemble and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Band. Past recipients who have been honoured with medals are asked to wear their decorations.

    The official celebration of the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is held annually on the second Saturday in June. 

    Note:
    The Governor’s Standard is the official flag of His Excellency and is flown at the Governor’s Office and residence. The Governor salutes the flag in the Royal Salute symbolising Her Majesty’s presence.
