Social Survey Reveal Critical Information

Schedule for enumerators conducting the National Household Registry
By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 17, 2015 (SKNIS): The National Household Registry currently on the way in St. Kitts, is yielding valuable information that will enable authorities to better provide for residents.

The primary purpose is to identify households where greater access to government services is required. However, vital secondary information is also being collected. Such was the case in relation to vacant premises as noted by Director of Community Affairs Azilla Clarke.

“One thing we didn’t … realize about St. Anne parish is the amount of abandoned properties,” she revealed. “So where as our numbers said 774 households, on average nearly every night, we were recording like 20 to 50 abandoned properties. That is something we have to factor in and get the numbers so that the state, as it goes about executing its revitalization programmes, can look at what’s possible.”

Other extracted social statistics with value, include the number of female headed household, sanitation, the quality of education, housing and more. Officials from Social Services and the Department of Statistics plan to meet this week to examine some of the particulars discovered. That and other social statistics will be publicly released after the exercise is complete.

For the relevant information to be collected, it is necessary for residents to be open and honest with enumerators conducting the confidential survey. Residents who may have missed out on the survey can contact officials at the National Household Registry at 466-0057/8 or 662-5539 in order to make arrangements to complete the process.
