BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CARDIE STAPLETON, the young man whom police had claimed to be “a person of interest” and was apprehended on Saturday last (Jun. 13), was formally arrested and charged for the offence of receiving.
The charge stems from an April 2015 incident in which the doors of the St. Kitts Cricket Association (SKCA) and the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) offices at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium were destroyed and a number of items were stolen.
According to Dennis Phillips, President of the SKCA, the incident had occurred between the night of April 20 and the morning of the 21st.
Phillips had told SKNVibes that on entering the offices on the morning of April 21, he discovered that they were vandalised and six computers were stolen; two from the SKCA and four from the LICA.
Following investigations into the incident, police had issued a press release on Saturday (May 23), which stated that Kevern Adams of Taylors Housing was arrested and charged on six counts of building breaking and larceny; charges that are relaated to the same incident.
However, following Adams’ arrest, police had issued a bulletin for Stapleton and were seeking the public’s assistance in his apprehension.
And on Sunday (Jun. 14), police issued a communiqué stating that officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force had received information that Stapleton was seen in a vehicle in the Frigate Bay area on Saturday (Jun. 13).
Consequently, at about 2:55 p.m. an operation was conducted in the Frigate Bay and South East Peninsula areas, which resulted in the apprehension of the 23-year-old Taylor’s Villager.
