18 June 2015  --  Employees of CIBC FirstCaribbean recently got the opportunity to experience work from the perspective of one of their colleagues, with the staging of the bank’s “Trading Places” exercise.

Trading Places, which was revived this year after a short hiatus, was billed as an opportunity to explore the intricacies of what employees would consider their “dream jobs” within the bank, or simply shadow a professional partner with whom they cooperate to deliver service to the bank’s customers.

One hundred and twenty-eight members of staff, including several members of the Senior Executive Team, grabbed at the opportunity and exchanged places with employees in areas a diverse as Branch Ambassadors, IT Helpdesk Technicians, Corporate Bankers, and Finance Analysts.

Chief Executive Officer, Rik Parlhill, who was in high demand as a “Trading Places partner”, spent one day as a Branch Ambassador at the bank’s Broad Street branch in Barbados and hosted Kent Emile-Smith, from the bank’s Technology Department another day.

Of his stint in the branch, Mr. Parkhill noted that, even after he interacted with Branch Ambassadors in several countries, it was only after spending a day walking in their shoes that he came to fully appreciate how complicated their role was. He added: ‘it is always useful to stand in someone else’ shoes and see what they face on a day-to-day basis.”

Several other employees of CIBC FirstCaribbean from across the Caribbean took time to praise the programme, describing it as a golden opportunity to advance the concept of cross-functional teamwork.

Trading Places is an annual activity which forms part of the bank’s Employee Appreciation Day programme, and in St Kitts and Nevis staff took time to recognize individual contributions through the Customer Appreciation Day Most Outstanding Employee Competition for 2015.

Winners of the competition were: Keija Mills-Ible, Most Thoughtful Employee; Ladimer Gumbs, Most Engaging Employee; Alexander Cassius, Most Reliable and Efficient; Larry Vaughan, Most Fun; Khama De Suza, Above & Beyond; Marion Burroughs, The Fact Finder; and Sophia Hamilton as the Most Outstanding Leader.
