CPL and St Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Education announce free tickets for school children

By: CPL, Press Release

2000 children to watch the world’s best T20 players for free!

22nd June 2015, Basseterre, St Kitts & Nevis  -- The Hero CPL and the St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Education are delighted to announce that, in celebration of the CPL’s return to the Federation, school children will be granted free access to the Players’ Pavilion stand seats for all of the games to be hosted at Warner Park.

The announcement is a great boost for the next generation of cricketers from the Federation, and means that up to 2000 children will now get to experience first-hand the excitement of CPL and see the best T20 players in the world in action.

Warner Park will host ten Hero CPL matches from 30th June to 11th July, with a week of neutral matches preceding the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ four home games. Local children will be cheering on the new franchise, which boasts some of the biggest names in T20 cricket, including Shahid Afridi, captain Marlon Samuels, Martin Guptill, and Sohail Tanvir.

The support from the Ministry of Education will extend to the provision of school buses to transport the children to and from the games, and organizing supervision for the children.

Pete Russell, Chief Operating Officer, Hero Caribbean Premier League, said: “This is great news for the next generation of cricketers in St Kitts and Nevis. It’s hugely important that we introduce new fans to cricket, so we’re delighted that the Ministry of Education has supported this plan. The CPL has had such a great reception in St Kitts and Nevis, and we’re looking forward to a wonderful atmosphere at Warner Park in June and July.”

Richard Berridge, Chief Operating Officer, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, said: “Our franchise is delighted to do this for the islands’ school children, and I can only imagine how happy they must be. They’ll be sitting just a few feet from their cricket heroes, watching some of the best cricket in the world and cheering on their own team. It doesn’t get much better than that!”

Hon. Shawn Richards, Minister of Education, St Kitts and Nevis, said: "I'm pleased to be associated with this initiative. We appreciate the opportunity that the Hero CPL has provided for the two thousand school children in the Federation to be part of the excitement at CPLT20, and I wish the games every success."

At the Hero CPL, global superstars including Kevin Pietersen, Jacques Kallis and Shahid Afridi will join the Caribbean’s finest cricketers, like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo, as well as exciting up-and-coming local talent.

Last year’s tournament attracted a global audience in excess of 65 million and this year is set to be even higher as fans across the world continue to be drawn to the high quality action on the pitch and the unique party atmosphere off it.
