Prime Minister Harris Attends Regional Forum in Antigua

     Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 23, 2015 (SKNIS): St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris has joined other state leaders, senior officials and dignitaries in Antigua to review challenges, and issues facing the region ahead of the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting scheduled for July 2-4 July in Barbados.  

     

    The one day regional forum is hosted by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and concludes on June 23.
     
    Under the theme “CARICOM overcoming Challenges: Pathway to Development” it included presentations and discussions on: CARICOM’s Strategic Development Plans and Measures to Achieve Economic Sustainability; The Role of the Private Sector in addressing Caribbean Export Challenges: Policy Prescription; The Caribbean Here, Now and Beyond; The Role of the Caribbean Court of Justice within the Context of the Revised CARICOM Treaty and Good Governance and Electorial Reform. 
     
    “I deem it an honour and great privilege to present brief remarks at this regional forum,” Prime Minister Harris said, acknowledging the presence Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, host Prime Minister Gaston Browne and CARICOM Secretary General, Irwin LaRocque. “The objectives of the forum are to sensitise the public about the CARICOM Strategic Plan and the Reform Process of the integration architecture including its governance arrangements, and in particular to engage stakeholders in discussions on making the Plan operational.  The Plan seeks to reposition the Caribbean Community in response to the myriad challenges facing the region and to strengthen and advance regional integration.” 
     
    He commended Secretary General LaRocque and the CARICOM Secretariat for their roles in taking bold steps to chart a new course for the region in facing challenges while adding, that if carefully implemented, the plan will set the stage for a new era of regional development characterised by people-centered sustained economic growth.
     
    The Prime Minister was accompanied by Attorney General, the Honourable Vincent Byron.
