BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has made a further breakthrough in the case of the murder of Sheldon ‘Sword’ Cannonier, with three individuals being charged with the crime.

Police PRO Inspector Lyndon David issued a press release today (Jul. 1) informing that on Thursday last (Jun. 25) Kemo Flemming of Cardin Avenue, Vance Thomas of College Street Ghaut and Sylvester Crossley of Fort Thomas Road were charged with Cannonier’s killing.

On June 2, 2013, Cannonier, after exiting a church service at the Rivers of Living Water Christian Center, was shot and killed.

He was reportedly making his way along a road in Lime Kiln towards the Island Main Road when two vehicles approached and a number of gunmen disembarked one of them and opened fire on Cannonier. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Less than two weeks after the incident, Crossly, Thomas and one Shane Amory of New Road were arrested and charged with Cannonier’s murder. With a “warrant in the first instance” prepared for Flemming since June 2013, he had avoided arrest for some time but was apprehended by police shortly before the case went through to the Preliminary Inquiry level.

SKNVibes understands that the men were committed to stand trial but at the point of trial, the case was nolle prosequied.

And while Amory was not rearrested and recharged, Crossley, Thomas and Flemming were.

“The Violent Crime Unit (VCU) has worked assiduously in the investigation of the murder of Sheldon Cannonier which occurred on 2 June 2013. Every lead was followed upon which provided the evidence to formally arrest and charged three (3) persons for the murder.

“The Head of the Violent Crime Unit, Superintendent Mitchell therefore takes this opportunity to thank all who were instrumental in the investigation. Also, he hoped that this arrest will bring some form of satisfaction and comfort to the family members, friends, and community,” the release read.
