BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Palmetto Point entrepreneur, who was shot a couple of weeks ago while at his establishment, lost the fight for his life sometime last evening and early this morning (Jul. 7), according to police.
Confirmation was given by Superintendent Cromwell Henry, Commander of the District ‘B’ Division on St. Kitts.
Ernest ‘Gray Patch’ Hendricks was working in his bakery during the pre-dawn hours of June 24, 2015 when a gunman reportedly entered to rob him and ended up shooting him in the process.
Hendricks sustained injury(ies) to his abdomen and was rushed to the Joseph N. France General Hospital by his son. He was warded there until the time of his passing.
A press release previously issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s Public Relations Officer Inspector David, informed that Kevin Hamilton of West Farm, but who hails from St. Paul’s Village, was taken into police custody on the same afternoon after a firearm and matching rounds of ammunition were found on his person.
The police communiqué informed that he was charged in relation to the find on the following day and was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.
Inspector David had indicated to this publication that Hamilton was being looked at as a “person of interest” in Hendricks’ shooting.
SKNVibes made attempts to contact Inspector David this morning (Jul. 7) to ascertain whether or not Hamilton is still a person of interest in the case, but the calls were unanswered.
Hendricks’ death registers the Federation’s 18th homicide for the year, 13 of which were committed on St. Kitts and five on sister isle Nevis.
He was the proprietor of an adjoining bakery and shop – Highway Superette – which is located on the Island’s Main Road in Palmetto Point.
