BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE men of Challenger’s Village, who were charged with the murder of George Livingston Queeley, will have to stand trial for the offence at the September Criminal Assizes following a decision made at the preliminary inquiry (PI).

The men, Keith ‘Zion’ Murray, Denroy ‘Barber’ Simmonds and Nicholas Riley, recently appeared at the District ‘B’ Magistrate’s Court for the PI hearing, and the presiding Magistrate, having been satisfied that there was sufficient evidence, pronounced that they stand trial at the next Criminal Assizes.

Queeley went missing in late January 2011 and his remains were discovered in the Challenger’s Mountain area on Thursday, November 14, 2013 during a joint operation between members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force.

A police communiqué dated Wednesday, November 20, 2013 said: “Keith Murray age 26, Denroy Simmonds age 27, and Nicholas Riley age 23 all of Challengers Village were formally arrested and charged for the Murder of George Livingston Queeley, which was allegedly committed on 27/01/2011.”

This publication, at the time, had learnt that the long dreadlocks Queeley was sometime in the past deported from the US.

According to the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Lyndon David, “This case was considered a cold case, and was pursued intensely by the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU), which resulted in the arrest and charge of the accused persons.”

Reportedly, there were 34 homicides in 2011, but with the revelation of Queeley’s death in early January of that year, the count has increased to 35.
