BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOLLOWING the intensification of Stop and Search Operations in St. Kitts, members of the Security Forces have removed yet another firearm off the streets and a young man is in police custody charged with the offence.

A police communiqué states that at about 3:45 a.m. on Saturday (Jul. 11), members of the Security Forces conducted an operation at Port Zante, which led to them stopping motorcar PA7161, owned and driven by Raheem Gaskin of Cayon.

A search of Gaskin’s person and also that of the vehicle revealed the find of a semi-automatic pistol and a number of matching rounds of ammunitions.

Gaskin and the find were taken into police custody and he was formally arrested and charged yesterday (Jul. 13) with Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.

It is not known if he was placed on bail or remanded to prison. However, Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David informed that he is also considered a person of interest in a murder investigation and would be questioned in relation to that.

This publication has learnt that the murder is one of the cold cases still under investigation and had taken place in May 2013 in Cayon.
