Government Welcomes Harmonious Relationship between Employers and Employees

Senior Minister and Minister of Labour, the Honourable Vance Amory
By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 17, 2015 (SKNIS):  Senior Minister and Minister of Labour Honourable Vance Amory, said that he is looking forward to a more harmonious relationship between labour and capital and employers and employees, which will support the national agenda.

He made the comments at a one-day session for bipartite partners - employees and employers, at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, on Thursday (July 16).

Senior Minister Amory stressed that from the seminar, he expects improvement in the environment and condition for ongoing dialogue between the Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL) and the Caribbean Employers’ Confederation (CEC).

“Out of your dialogue and considerable experience, you could shape and frame a structure or a conversation,” he said. “This will be beneficial to both organizations and the people whom you represent and also give some guidance to governments in the region.”

Hon. Amory stressed that whatever course the discussions take, they should be of great importance.

“Whatever we discuss and whatever formula we are going to create out of our discussions, must redound to the benefit of both groups, for the advancement of the country,” he said. “It means that employers will have to find that happy medium with employees so that the people whom they employ are happy in their place of work.”

He further stressed that the discussion is a good sign and is one that government needs to cultivate and continue, as it establishes a future of peaceful coexistence between the CCL and CEC.
