BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE task was not as easy as it seemed, as there was much milling amongst the contestants as they tried to guess the different ingredients within the dishes at Friday’s (Jul.17) leg of the ‘A Taste of TDC Sampling Event’ being held as a part of the observance of Restaurant Week, which runs from July 16 – 26.

The Verandah Restaurant, located at the Ocean Terrace Inn, was the venue for the event, where a dish of Sushi and a Dessert dish were prepared for the guests to taste and guess what the three mystery ingredients for each dish were.

Just as the case was at the Blu Restaurant, participants were required to accurately guess the secret ingredients, one of which began with the letter T, another with D and the final ingredient with the letter C.

The Dessert Dish, a cake decorated with blue and white icing and cherries, was called the Temptation, and the other dish, a Sushi Roll, was called the Dynamic Roll.

The guests had no difficulty digging in and sampling the scrumptious dishes, but there was obvious difficulty in deciphering some of the key ingredients.

SKNVibes observed that most individuals were able to guess two of the key ingredients for both dishes but the third proved a bit problematic.

After some consultation among themselves however, the tasters jotted down what they felt were the mystery ingredients and submitted their entries.

The Temptation’s ingredients – dark liqueur Tia Maria, Dates and Coconuts – were accurately submitted by eight individuals who all received consolation prizes, but the overall winner was Szuping Chen.

For her win, she was presented a beverage set.

The ingredients in the Dynamic Roll were Tuna, Conch and the one that gave the most difficulty, Dry Mustard.

Unlike the previous dish, only Darrell Mistier was able to accurately guess the ingredients and he received a prize of a set of dishes for his win.

The Sampling Event continues on Thursday (Jul. 23) at Montpelier Plantation in Nevis and on Saturday (Jul. 25) where signature cocktails would be prepared, again with the use of three unknown ingredients beginning with the letters T, D. and C.

Marketing Executive attached to the TDC Group of Companies’ Client Relations and Marketing Department, Dominic Matthew had previously indicated to SKNVibes that it is the wish of the Group that the TDC cocktails and dishes would become a long-term fixture on the restaurants’ menus.
