Fires affect SKELEC and customers

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO fires that occurred on either side of the Kim Collins Highway yesterday (Jul. 26) have adversely affected the St. Kitts Electricity Company Ltd. (SKELEC) and some of its customers who reside in the Conaree area.

As explained by Fire Chief Everette O’Garro, the first fire began on the south-eastern side of the road, while the second one began on the north-western side. He indicated that the second fire destroyed some material on SKELEC’s Needsmust compound next to LIME.

However, SKELEC’s Public Relations Officer Gawain Fraites informed SKNVibes that several utility poles in the Paradise Heights, Conaree area were consumed by the south-eastern fire which resulted in loss of electricity supply to some of the customers there.

He further informed that SKELEC’s technicians would be working assiduously throughout the course of today to replace the burnt poles and electrical wires and, hopefully, the residents’ electricity supply would be restored before the work day ends.

Fraites advised that the Company is in the process of quantifying damages caused by the north-western fire.
