Weekend marred by three criminal incidents

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE on St. Kitts are investigating three crimes that occurred over the weekend and are seeking the public’s assistance in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The first incident occurred sometime after 4:00 p.m. on Friday (Jul. 24) when two masked gunmen entered the Food Centre Limited in Buckley’s Estate and robbed the entity of an undisclosed sum of cash.

Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David confirmed that the incident did occur but declared that no one has so far been held and that investigations are ongoing.

He also confirmed an incident that took place at the Frigate Bay Strip which resulted in three individuals suffering injuries to various parts of their bodies.

According to information reaching this publication, a number of individuals were engaged in an argument early Saturday morning (Jul. 25) at a popular bar on the Frigate Bay Strip which led to one man being evicted from the establishment.

He reportedly returned to the venue shortly thereafter and inflicted the wounds on three men.

According to the Police PRO, “Based on preliminary investigations, at about 4:10 a.m. on Saturday the 25th of this month, there were patrons at a particular popular bar on the Frigate Bay Strip.

“Three persons were attacked by an assailant or assailants and they received wounds to their body. One person received a wound on his left thumb, another man was wounded on his left arm and the other one received a wound on the left side of his forehead.”

Inspector David also said that the men were taken to the hospital, where they were warded at that time after treatment for their wounds.

He however stated that the perpetrator or perpetrators have not yet been apprehended.

In WINN FM’s evening newscast on the same incident, it was reported that “the bar is now instituting a pat-down of customers entering the premises and is planning to have a fundraiser  to help with the medical expenses incurred by the injured men”.

And while the police had removed 12 firearms off the streets of the Federation for the year, two more have returned following the break-in of a Frigate Bay home between Friday night and Saturday morning.

It is reported that a bandit or bandits had entered the home and stole the licenced firearms.

Speaking with SKNVibes this evening (Jul. 27), Inspector David informed that “at this point in time we are investigating the matter” and the police are seeking the public’s assistance in an effort to retrieve the stolen firearms.

The PRO however issued a warning to licenced holders to ensure that their firearms are properly secured and not to disclose they are owners of same.

“We are saying to persons who are licenced firearm holders to ensure that they properly secure their firearms and not to let persons know that they have a firearm unless, for some reason, they may have to use it in defence of themselves and others or their residence for which the licence was given.”

He also stated that should their firearms be stolen or misplaced, the licenced holders must ensure that the authorities are informed as soon as possible so that the necessary and appropriate actions could be taken.

“So, we want to encourage persons to put the necessary safety features in place in order to protect not only themselves but also important items, including firearms and ammunition,” he added.

The PRO declared that, like the two other incidents, the police are asking anyone who might have information leading to the recovery of the two firearms to contact the Frigate Bay Police Station at 465-6899, the Criminal Investigation Department at 465-2241, the nearest police station or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS).
