BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE mother of infant Tu’Mani Alexander-Nisbett is seeking the public’s assistance in taking her baby boy overseas for urgent medical attention.

Jahdira Alexander of Shadwell gave birth to her son six months ago and as he began to grow she noticed a strange behaviour from him which prompted her to seek medical attention.

“He was stiffening out and things of that nature, so we decided to take him to the doctor. We had
some blood tests done and everything came back normal, but he was still stretching out and still
    stiffening up.”

She explained that the attending pediatrician, Dr. Ian Jacobs, indicated that it appeared to be some form of seizure and took the decision to have a CT scan performed to see if the exact problem could be pinpointed.

“Dr. Jacobs said it appears to be a form of seizure but he has to check and see if anything is wrong with his brain first, so that he doesn’t jump to conclusion.

“Friday night he told us that he has news to give us, and he came and said he wanted the whole family to be there. Then when he gave the news, he said the ventricles in his brain are wider than they should be, which is leading him to having all these seizures.”

She further explained that this results in a buildup of extra fluid in Tu’Maní’s brain which causes the seizure-like symptoms.

“We found Friday from a CT scan that he has excess fluid on his brain and the fluid needs to be drained. If it is not drained, he could be paralyzed and become mentally-challenged.”

Alexander stated that Tu’Maní needs to travel to Barbados to have the procedure done and, to this end, the public is asked to kindly make a financial contribution via National Bank Account 3837068

In her plea for assistance, she expressed, “I am a teenage mom. You never know what real motherhood is like until you see that smile wiped off a child’s face. Wake him, he is playing, smiling, everything. As the saying goes, the widest smile hides the most pain. He was not able to tell us he is sick and if we didn’t take it upon ourselves to have him checked, matters could have been worse.

“We can’t afford to lose hope or anything; we just need the help…please.”
