By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 31, 2015 (SKNIS): Championship performances by athletes from St. Kitts and Nevis have drawn commendation from the federation’s Deputy Prime Minister Honourable Shawn Richards, who expressed pride at their achievements.

Sprinter Antoine Adams, who recently won a bronze medal in the Men’s 100 meters at the Pan Am Games in Canada, was the first to be saluted. Adams recorded a time of 10.09 seconds behind Andre De Grasse of Canada and Ramon Gittens of Barbados. Minister Richards noted that he was able to congratulate Adams in person while in Canada but felt compelled to salute his achievements publicly.

The recent victory of the S. L. Horsfords St. Pauls United Football Team, which captured the premier league championship title, was the second sporting achievement highlighted. The team defeated the SOL Island Auto Conaree team, two games to none in the best of three series.

Finally, congratulations went out to Rojem Felix who is competing in the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, CA, USA. Rojem won silver in Men’s Single Bocce. He has since been joined on the medal podium by Berenice Jimenez and Constance “Connie” Bagnall who won Gold in the Ladies Single Bocce. The trio also teamed up in the group event along with Letisha Davis and won a silver medal.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Sports, on behalf of myself and indeed on behalf of the government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis, I extend congratulations,” Deputy Prime Minister Richards said in his capacity as the Minister of Sport.

Honourable Richards has long maintained that national athletes are ambassadors of the twin-island federation and explained that the nation is proud whenever they take the world stage to participate in regional and international competition.
